One
of the highlights of my grandfather’s early life was when he could stop
hauling illegal beverages and go to work in a Civilian Conservation
Corps CCC camp. Not only was it a great
opportunity to meet other young people who he would not have met deep in
the northwoods, but he also learned many useful skills including
surveying, tree planting, road construction, bridge construction, and
more.
At the Rhinelander Museum we had the opportunity to tour the facilities that these young men lived and worked in.
